Barcelona target rejects club due to Lionel Messi for Real Madrid transfer

Barcelona will have to look at other options after a primary target has preferred a move to Real Madrid over them due to Lionel Messi’s cabal.

Real Madrid are going to have a productive transfer spell this summer. There have not been any signings just yet but Toni Kroos’ contract renewal was nearly one given the heavy speculation that linked the Germany international to Manchester City. Eden Hazard will sign after the Europa League and the Whites will now look to close in on Luka Jovic, also on top of Barcelona’s shortlist of strikers.

The Serbia international has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt and scored 27 times in all competitions for the Hesse based city. That said, his departure is imminent amid interest from some of Europe’s top clubs. At 60 million euros, he is an extremely affordable player to most and his statistics and age could make the deal look like a bargain.

But Real Madrid are frontrunners in the race to sign Luka Jovic and are highly in contention to finish all procedures by the end of this week, as per Diario GOL. The 21-year-old was going to sign for the Merengues following the end of the Bundesliga season and following its conclusion last weekend, an announcement could be made anytime now.
The reason that Jovic said no to Barcelona was Lionel Messi. The Catalans were not willing to guarantee minutes to the striker and Messi’s preference of playing with Luis Suarez clearly signalled that the former Benfica striker would play few minutes throughout the season. Meanwhile, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has plans to play two strikers- Jovic and Benzema.

Should Real Madrid now not sign Luka Jovic would be in the case that Inter Milan come knocking for Luka Modric, in which case Florentino Perez would demand some cash as well as lethal forward Mauro Icardi from the Nerazzurri. Meanwhile, Barcelona will probably fasten their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann even though Messi is not in favour of the deal.

Question of the day:Is Antoine Griezmann the right man for Barcelona and if not him, who could be better signings?
